The body depends on a healthy central nervous system, which is heavily influenced by the craniosacral system (CSS). The CSS includes the brain, spinal cord and spinal fluid, surrounding membranes, and bony structures in the head and sacrum. It produces, circulates, and reabsorbs cerebrospinal fluid, creating a cranial pulse or rhythm that can be monitored by light touch on almost any part of the body.
The stress of everyday living, chronic tension, injuries, surgeries, disease, and chronic dehydration can cause loss of flexibility and structural misalignment or imbalance in the craniosacral system.
Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on approach that taps into the body’s own natural self-corrective ability to create balance and wellness in the nervous system. The goal of CST is to ease restrictions inside the skull and the spine, thus relieving stress, decreasing pain, and enhancing overall health in the central nervous system.
During a craniosacral session, I evaluate the functioning of the craniosacral system by testing various locations for ease of motion and the rhythm of cerebrospinal fluid. I then use soft touch techniques to release restrictions in the soft tissues that surround the central nervous system.
Craniosacral therapy complements the body’s natural healing processes, bolsters an animal’s resistance to disease, and helps with pain, orthopedic issues, injuries, anxiety, and trauma.
